MRCS Schedule 2022: Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there only two sittings of the Part A in 2022?

The decision not to run the January 2022 sitting and to identify and implement a revised delivery approach for the Part A has meant that scheduling three diets of the Part A in 2022 has not been possible without adjusting the schedule for future years.

I originally planned to apply for the Part A in April 2022. What are my options now?

Those in Core Training (CT1) will still be able to apply for the Part A in May 2022 (see below). Candidates not in Core Training (including those sitting outside of the UK and Ireland) who would have applied for the Part A in April 2022 will be able to apply for the September 2022 sitting instead.

When will I be able to apply for the September 2022 sitting of the Part A?

Applications will open for the September 2022 sitting in February 2022. Further information will be provided by the Colleges nearer the time.

I am a CT1 candidate wishing to apply for the May 2022 sitting of the Part A. How do I go about doing so?

Candidates should contact the College with which they will to sit the Part A by 28 January 2022 with evidence of their training status and address in the UK or Ireland (such as a training number). Further information will then be provided regarding completing their booking.

I have already applied to sit the Part A in January 2022. What do I need to do now?

Candidates who have a place in the January 2022 sitting of the Part A will be transferred automatically to the May 2022 sitting and will be contacted with further details of this by the College with which they applied.

If I am registered to sit the Part A in May 2022, what do I have to do to book a test centre?

Full details regarding booking a place at a chosen test centre will be provided by the College with which candidates applied in early 2022. We will ensure that candidates have the opportunity to select a centre that is geographically close to them wherever possible.

What can I expect at a test centre?

Candidates will attend a test centre at a specified time on the day of the examination, show their identification and sit the examination at their designated seat. Further information will be provided by the College with which candidates applied in early 2022.

Why is the July Part B sitting only open to CT2 candidates passing the Part A in May?

The July sitting of the Part B has been scheduled specifically enable candidates in this position to attain the MRCS prior to the end of their training year, notwithstanding the recent derogation that has been put in place for these trainees.
