Statement on MRCS Part A HIV question

The Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examinations (ICBSE) of the Surgical Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom and Ireland are sincerely sorry this question was included in the Intercollegiate MRCS Part A exam earlier this week. It has understandably caused offence and disquiet among exam candidates, members and fellows of the surgical colleges.
We will be urgently reviewing how this question was included and we can confirm that it will not be used again.
We routinely seek feedback on all exam questions as part of our quality assurance processes and we are committed to making sure that exam questions are inclusive and appropriately worded.
